A FAMILY LEGACY
WHAT CAN IT MEAN FOR YOUR FAMILY?
A family is touched by experiences, memories, and people. But it is something when a family is transformed by what has happened to them, individually and together.
Mark and Joan Boyden grew up in southern Oregon. They were married for 54 years and had two children, Dan and Sandra.
Dan Boyden went off to college at Oregon State University where he became involved with Campus Crusade for Christ and began attending Northwest Hills Community Church. Dan’s life was touched by the Lord. He went home with a story to tell. He shared his new life in Christ with his father. As a result, Mark returned to church.
Dan went on to become a partner and president of Trammell Crow Oregon at the age of 29. He is now the president of Pacific Crest Partners, a real estate development firm which he founded in 1991.
As properties were developed and sold, there were opportunities for investing in the Lord’s work. “I needed to do some strategic thinking and develop a plan for what the Lord wanted me to be doing.”
“My wife, Julie, and I attended a Generous Giving Conference where we heard testimonies of people who were seeking to strategically give to various ministries and honor the Lord. I realized that you can’t take it with you and building bigger barns is not the answer. Together, we caught the vision of biblical stewardship and joyous giving.” The Boydens have been very involved with Horizon Christian School and Young Life.
Over time, Mark saw the impact of Dan and Julie getting their priorities aligned with God’s plan, including their finances. Dan says, “I saw the principles of financial stewardship and the joy of giving making a difference in my life and my family. I helped dad see the benefits of establishing a charitable remainder trust that benefitted Horizon Christian School with some commercial property in Medford. Dad took great joy in supporting the school his grandchildren attended.”
Dan’s parents and sister have all deceased recently. “My father was a person who walked with the Lord and lived simply, content with what God had provided. My mom designed our home, and it was good enough for them. In his later years dad also discovered the joy of giving and realized it was better to give some away now in support of ministry.”
One of Mark’s chosen projects was to help fund the construction of the gymnasium at Horizon Christian School. Ken Block, superintendent of Horizon says, “Mark Boyden did not want any public recognition for his gifts. A picture of the basketball team signed by the players was enough. However, after his passing, and with the family’s blessing, the gym is now named Mark Boyden Court in his honor.”
Northwest Christian Community Foundation has been a part of the Boyden family since 1998. “The Boyden Family Advised Fund is seen as a way of establishing a legacy and a means of getting our family involved in the joy of giving.” Mark Boyden’s estate has also established an advised fund that will be used to support Christian ministry projects over the next ten years. NCCF has had a role in helping make the Boyden family’s dreams of being God’s servants and joyous stewards a reality.
SCHOLARSHIP FUND
PROVIDES HOPE & A FUTURE

In Rwanda a six-year old boy enjoys life with his family. He finds joy in the songs his mother teaches him.
In 1994 political violence unleashes it's fury on the streets of Rwanda. Hutu militia armed with machetes, clubs, and guns indiscriminately kill Tutsi civilians. And the six-year old boy, Enric, loses his father to that violence. He watches in horror as a city official clubs his mother to death. Three years later Enric is living on the streets.
"There was one place I could find joy - in song," reflects Enric. "I could mentally escape by singing those songs my mom taught me as a little boy. One night I distinctly heard God's voice telling me He was going to change my life, change my heart and use me for His purpose in the world. The next day wandering down the street I found myself in front of a church and walked in. I found myself in the midst of people who genuinely cared about me. For the first time in six years I felt the warmth of a human hug."
Enric started singing in the church choir, writing his own music. At age 17 he entered a national music contest similar to American Idol. His passion for music enabled him to win the competition. He performed for the president of Rwanda and spent two years on tour.
While on tour in Oregon, Africa New Life Ministries made a commitment to help Enric fulfill another dream - to complete his education.
Africa New Life Ministries met with Andy Sears, principal at Westside Christian High School about the possibility of bringing Enric to Oregon to complete his education. God began to make a way for this young man and in 2008, at the age of 20; Enric started his freshman year of high school!
How does a street kid from the war torn streets of Rwanda end up at a Christ-centered high school in Lake Oswego?
Through a unique partnership brought about by a ministry - Africa New Life Ministries
- Through the caring and committed staff of Westside Christian High School
- Through people who care about young people and give to a scholarship fund.
And the bridge that brings all these people together - Northwest Christian Community Foundation - the entity that manages scholarship funds for Westside.
"We are incredibly grateful for our partnership with NCCF. It has expanded our ability to manage financial aid gifts separately from other funds with security and flexibility." Andy Sears, Principal

Access to Otherwise Isolated People
From the very beginning the underlying purpose at Quest Aircraft has been to design and manufacture an aircraft specifically suited to the needs of humanitarian organizations which provide access to otherwise isolated peoples in the most geographically challenging regions of the world. Since December 31, 2002 NCCF/Quest Aircraft Charitable Fund has supported AirServ International, New Tribes Mission, Jaars, Inc., Mercy Air South Africa, Mission Aviation Aircraft and Adventist Aviation Indonesia.
Below is a typical mission airstrip! You might offer a prayer for the hundreds of landings and take-offs in these primitive settings every day.

Quest Aircraft was featured in the November 2009 issue of Time magazine. To read the Time article, “ A Turboprop Built for Trouble” you can access the story at http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1938737,00.html
